The Origin of Human Design
The Human Design System was an original revelation that came through a man known as Ra Uru Hu in 1987. Since then, that original material has been interpreted in many different ways by a variety of people.
When the original material was first shared with the world, Ra Uru Hu expressed his belief that it should be freely available to anyone.
In his ‘black book’, published in 1991, Ra Uru Hu says:
“I am indebted to whatever Gods may be that I am an instrument of this knowledge. It is not mine. I have no choice. “
There is a general belief that the version of the Human Design System taught by Ra Uru Hu and his Jovian Archive, along with their licensed agents such as the International Human Design School, is THE ONLY version. This is not the truth. Like astrology, there are many ways of approaching Human Design. My understanding is that Jovian Archive and the IHDS teaches Human Design in their own particular way, and certifies ‘Analysts’ who have completed their training.
This certification does not give anyone exclusive rights to explore and share Human Design within a given area. It simply gives the right to teach the certified material. I make every attempt to respect those legal rights. My advice is that this legal protection does not include the originally revealed material, which, as Ra wrote back in 1991, is freely available to all.
I don’t claim to know any more or any less than any other person out there who calls themselves a Human Design Analyst. What I do know is that it has been a major influence in my life since I first saw the wheel image in a US magazine back in April 2003. Within one month, and against all odds, I was sitting in my living room in the Australian bush, miles from anywhere, with a detailed Human Design training manual in front of me.
I did my original training back in 2003 and since that time I have engaged in an inspired dialogue with what I can only describe as the guardians of the Human Design System.

My own area of inspired curiosity is to look beyond the standard chart. To go beyond the standard 13 planetary activations, beyond Type, Authority and Strategy, beyond the single chart and into subtle layers of consciousness. While I don’t reject anyone else’s approach to Human Design, focusing on my own personal approach has brought me moments of profoundly satisfying insight and wisdom.
I look for positive practical benefits. What’s the use of any tool of consciousness unless we benefit from it? My work is always guided by how useful it is to you.
I have always been informed by observing the Human Design transits, and I’ve been blogging my observations since 2005. The Essential Elements of Human Design
It has been pointed out to me that working with the 4 essential elements of Human Design ~ the I Ching, Astrology, the Chakra system and the Tree of Life ~ keeps us trapped in the ancient, and prevents us from moving into a quantum reality. That is not my experience. These four ancient wisdoms are capable of evolving. They are evolving, and we with them.
- Our chakras are spinning vortexes of light and data, converting our essence from the quanutm level and into physical expression.
- The Tree of Life is the human aspect of our light body, the geometric form of creation and our personal connection to universal energies.
- The I Ching has precise mathematical correlations to our human DNA and to chaos theory.
- Astrology has consistently shown itself to be a powerful symbolic language that mirrors the cosmic into our own day to day reality. It is currently expanding beyond our comprehension with it’s influx of new dwarf planets and other bodies.
Your Human Design chart is a quantum map of your reality, a hologram of your daily existence as a prism of light in the rainbow of life. In considering the meaning of our design, we must keep a warm hand on the past, as we continue to move into the future. Without this perspective we lose touch with our humanity, and abort our collective wisdom by living out of context.
