The Sacred Human

Dwarf Planet Eris had the provisional name Xena

29th March 2011

As Mercury goes retrograde in Gate 42 tomorrow we can expect hickups to communications as our perceptions shift and change.  Although we may not be aware of it,  we are opening up to new ways of seeing and doing.  Everyone is ready to blame Mercury for any problems, but when he is keeping company with the Goddess of Discord Eris, as he is now, well, expect to see a bit of chaos!

But it’s not necessarily just a mess of bad news.  Because in April, we also have Jupiter joining the mix.  Jupiter and Eris together tend to set wrongs to right.

From Philip Sedgwick’s Galactic Times:

Long ago, Jupiter was displeased with the ruler of Mycenae. So he summoned Mercury to approach the leader of the land and ask if he would relinquish his throne if the Sun and Moon rose in the west. The ruler, forgetting the messenger was the inveterate trickster, quickly agreed. Then, Jupiter dispatched Eris, the goddess of discord, for a hand.

Together, they reversed the motion of the heavens for but one day so the stars, Moon and Sun rose in the west and the Pleiades wept (and that’s why that asterism holds the reputation as weeping sisters/brothers). Bottom line: Jupiter and Eris aligned energies to correct a political wrong and to reverse courses that did not agree with Jupiter’s aspirations.

Eris is also responsible for showing us the places where we tend to create chaos in our own lives because we are being ignored.  It’s not that others are ignoring us.  We’ve been ignoring an aspect of ourselves and it’s capacity for chaos is rampant around the globe, unseen because we have as a species been oblivious to it in our individual selves.  Keeping an aspect of ourselves locked away in inhuman conditions – effectively in hell – has left us open to treating others as less than human.  More on that later.

On 29th April, Jupiter and Mars will align with Eris in Gate 42.   Remember I mentioned that we are seeing the fall of the ‘head’, the king?  Well here is part of the description for meeting of Jupiter, Mars and Eris in Gate 42:

You have a blessing of unshakeable intrinsic value.  It is good to respond with a fluid steadfastness: to stay with it and invest your whole, true self, but also to stay mobile and responsive to change.  Receive your blessing as a king, who understands that s/he is blessed and chooses to dedicate the whole changing experience to the higher good.

Saturn and Jupiter are opposite each other today, a completion of all those oppositions we sweated through in 2010.  The key issue here is an activation of the place where we struggle to keep our blinkers on and don’t want to look at the good things in our lives.

It’s partly because of the trauma we’ve been carrying, the inner child hiding away from the world, huddling in a safe place.  I’ve been feeling a bit Harry Potterish, like a wild and magical child who’s been locked in a dark cupboard below the stairs for a very, very long time.  The only thing is, our hiding places haven’t actually been safe and it’s gotten very lonely in there.  With the asteroid Child conjunct Pluto just now, we have a choice to stay in hell or get the hell out of there.

How?  By giving up having to know how.  By trusting the range of fractal possibilities in an abundant universe.  By living fully in each moment and seeing the gift it brings.

Saturn urges us to take responsibility for our own growth, but we have launched ourselves into another reality where that responsibility aligns with the power and freedom of our own soul journey, rather than with following the agenda of others.  When we build a life with the newly evolved Saturn, we create a life that makes perfect sense (Jupiter).  A stable (Saturn) faith in life and ongoing sense of good fortune (Jupiter) is the result.

The Sun in Gate 17 is at the centre of the whole Pluto/Saturn/Jupiter/Uranus shift we’re in the middle of.  Gate 17 is a mental gate that can tend to see only what it wants to see – the pattern of reality we’ve decided will keep us safe.   Our ego mind wants to have a logical plan, a goal and a pathway we believe is safe.  There’s a lunacy in the illusion that we can control our lives in this way.  But never fear!  Our ego is evolving, opening out from a limited logical mental view to one that sees more possibilities and connections.  It is listening to our true awareness.   It is shifting from linear to fractal.

Letting go of the neurotic (but perfectly understandable) need of the inner child to keep safe opens us up to a flow of universal energy that we were previously blind to.

The way we view the ‘head’, – as in headmaster, headquarters, etc – shows us clearly how our culture assumes the head should always be in charge and in control.  Our inner landscape is littered with the bits of our psyche that didn’t make the grade, didn’t make it past the logical gatekeeper, couldn’t rationally justify their existence.

But those days are numbered, on the inner and outer planes and hence the ‘beheading’ of various world leaders just now, as they are toppled by the ‘body’ of their citizens.  Notice that this is not faction fighting or alternative dictators we are seeing in the middle east, but citizens against the leader – a true Aquarian revolution.  Saudi Arabia is starting to shake and shiver, as the ruling dynasty has just refused women the right to vote at it’s upcoming elections.  Many influential Saudi’s feel that this sort of regressive tactic might not be a good move in the current climate!

This week’s amazing Pluto (58), Earth (18) and Saturn (48) lineup is shifting our perception of reality and opening us to a new view of our future.  Venus, Ceres, Chiron,  and Dwarf Planet Snow White – all in Gate 55! with Neptune close by in Gate 30 -are triggering our emotions to help us wake up to our wounded self, the parts of ourselves who didn’t pass the logical test.  This gives us a whole new way of seeing what’s really going on.  As a result, we are casting off the mesmeric effects of our long term somnambulance,  owning our personal needs for nurturance, accepting the abundance constantly flowing to us, and realising the sacred nature of our own humanity.

There is nothing about you that isn’t sacred, nothing within you that isn’t love.   It may not be logical, but it’s true!

New Moon ~ Fear of the Flow

New Moon:  3rd February UT 2.30am.

Satellite image for Tropical Cyclone Yasi

Well there’s no need to read a transit blog to find out that this is one doozy of a New Moon.  We have a monster cyclone in Australia – and for once that’s not media hype, a volcano erupting in Japan, mammoth snow storms pounding the US.

We also have major unrest in Egypt that threatens the fragile stability of the Middle East, the oil industry and the global economy.

They have one thing in common at least.  Their effect is more widespread than we would normally expect.  Yasi is likely to contine beyond the coast for many hundreds of miles, and the US snow storms are cutting a swathe through the midwest.

As I suggested in my Short Take on 30th January – this New Moon has been building on the Sun, Mars and Ceres energy in the Root Centre in Gate 19, prior to the Sun shifting to the Ji Centre in Gate 13.  The potent combination of the two gates has created a bridge between our personal emotional world and the greater collective, between our personal survival and our desire to be part of the collective heart.

It is asking us to look at some specific issues – how we use our power (Sun), how we apply our will (Mars), a deep need for intimate emotional connection (Moon), and how we can become neurotic when we don’t get it (Ceres).  These are all clear messages that fit neatly into the category of environmentalism.   I’ve seen many descriptions on twitter of Cyclone Yasi as a ‘bitch’ – our disconnection from mother earth, and her angry response to this callous disregard.

I’ve watching television coverage from Queensland as I write and David Koche has just described the situation with Cyclone Yasi as akin to a war on terror, but “it’s a war on nature”.

And it’s not just an earth thing.  The Great Attractor, until recently considered the biggest thing known in the universe, is involved (in Gate 5.3, sextile the New Moon and creating a channel with the South Node) no doubt adding to the immense size and scope of these two extreme weather events.

But there is something much, much deeper going on here, and it’s happening within you.  It’s the war we all carry on against our own nature.  This New Moon is itself a stepping stone to the new energies that are becoming available to us in 2011.  It brings a chance to be compassionate, open and accepting of our full natural selves, and an opportunity to see our own warrior nature and allow it to champion our own cause in alignment with the ultimate good.

And the war is also between the structures we have built up to keep us safe (and feeling nurtured and nourished) and our true nature.  Roads, homes, schools, ports, island resorts – are preventing the free flow of wild energy that is a natural part of life on earth.  It’s not that we have to do without structure, it just needs to be more in tune with nature, more flexible and less likely to be destroyed.  Saturn (structure) will continue to be conjunct Haumea (healthy relationship with the earth) in the Spleen  Centre (physical realm) till October 2011, so this is a long term project!

Pluto in the Root Centre in the Gate of Joy is acting as a transformer to the Kuiper Belt, stepping us up to the energy of creation, and the chance to restructure our experience of death and transformation.

The structures are internal as well, held in place by our own unconscious beliefs about what’s required for our safety and survival.  We reject what nature offers and make do instead with an inferior version, something more ‘civilised’.  Ophelia and Zeus in Gate 48 are playing a role, with Ophelia representing the way in which we experience having strong emotions ignored.

You may want to hold yourself apart from the flow of receiving and giving for fear of losing your freedom and autonomy.  Yet only when you remove the barriers and become part of the flow can you experience the true essence of the situation and tap into it’s deeper potential.

Hilary Barrett

This is the addictive and delusional basis of our modern culture and psyche unravelling.

As always these days, I’m struggling to know where to start, what approach to take to cover the energy of the New Moon.  There are so many options.   Let’s look at the Sun and Moon.  They will be in Gate 13 line 1.

Inside the walls is the familiar village; outside, a bigger world where more can be gained or lost.  Those who think of venturing out naturally gather here at the gate – a little band of potential fellow travellers, united by their willingness to explore.  Gradually you come to the gate and gather courage to brave the unknown.  You may be concerned about what lies beyond the walls, but you’re going in the right direction.

Hilary Barrett

As we nervously peek out through the crack in the gate, our old reality is being washed away.  Poseidon, Decaulion (the Greek version of Noah) and Ceto (a terrifying deep sea creature) are still in place in Gate 44.  They were triggered by the Full Moon on Quaoar in Gate 26, causing the major flooding in Queensland 2 weeks ago.

Mars will be in Gate 13 line 2.   Ceres is holding the bridge, back in Gate 19 line 6.  She hasn’t finished there with our need to see where we reject nurturing.  A positive relationship between the two brings a feeling of acting on behalf of our own successful outcomes.  The negative issues include a subconscious grief and incapacitating loss arising from the rage of the mother directed our way.  The fear, sense of abandonment and loss of nurturing intimate connection were like a death experience when we were children.

Mars in Gate 13 line 2 has something very interesting to say.  We are not here to be safe and secure, and sometimes we just need to let go and see what happens.   Even our spiritual beliefs may become too small a space, because any rigid adherence to security eventually becomes a prison.  And a rigid adherence to security is very, very imporant to a small child who cannot rely on his or her parents for safety!  This immensely deep and painful wound is being healed on a global scale.  In this sense, the ice in the Northern Hemisphere represents the cold aloofness and the tropical cyclone in the Southern Hemisphere represents the rage and destructive fury, both disowned by us and projected out onto parent figures, mother earth, father sky, god and the universe.

Just one more point I want to make.  I’ve used the word ‘neurotic’ a few times in regard to Ceres.  It’s a word I have taken from the description by Demetra George in her book Asteroid Goddesses.  I believe this word holds the key to this New Moon.  Increasingly it seems difficult to understand what is going on in our lives, even to make sense of our own behaviour.  We naturally tend to think that we are wrong, that our reactions are neurotic.  This tendency comes from our experiences of being cut off from our natural selves.  I watch parents do this to children all the time.  “Don’t cry, there’s nothing to be sad about.”  or this “It’s okay, that didn’t really hurt.”  or try this one “Go to your room and I never want to see you behave like that again.”  Complete invalidation of the child’s reality means that our truthful and natural responses are quashed and rendered ‘neurotic’.  As a result we cultivate inauthenticity.

We are being asked to own our athentic wildness.  We are being given the opportunity to see that our willfulness is not destructive, as we believed when we were small children and it appear to destroy our security.  We are reclaiming our so-called neurotic selves.  We are being allowed to find a balance between flow and stability, a new type of security that holds us safe in the collective heart of humanity and the cosmos.

I suggest that if you feel a sense of being overpowered just now – whether it be a political revolution, a cyclone, a blizzard or just your own emotional overwhelm – you practice gradually and carefully allowing yourself to experience the flow of that energy rather than trying to keep yourself energetically ‘safe’.

New Moon and Solar Eclipse

4th January 2011

Although today’s New Moon is in Capricorn, there a deep and dark undercurrent of Scorpionic energy riding it’s wave, and that darkest of feminine energies Lilith plays an important role.  The hidden depth and secret power that has been wrapped in the suppressed wrath of the feminine has awakened, because we now have the compassionate container to express it cleanly.  It seems possible that the feminine aspect of men is more strongly affected by the energies this week.

It’s happening in the Root Chakra, so it will deal with fear, emotional anxiety, depression and any core issues of security and survival you might be holding onto.  Physically it will be about sexual issues, legs, feet.  the immune and adrenal systems.

I want to start out by looking at some more subtle influences and then move onto the big issues – like Jupiter – Uranus opposite Makemake in the Solar Plexus Centre having a powerful effect on the emotions, and  Saturn – Haumea connecting with the Nodes, bringing the body into alignment with our hearts and our soul geometry.

Firstly, there is the strong ongoing theme of unravelling family patterns.  Pluto in the Gate of Joy in the Root Centre is driving this process, reclaiming our authority over our own lives, listening to our own inner voice without dominating others or being dominated (Kassandra in 58.1), letting go of reactive impulses to make a fast break and escape restrictions rather than engage fully with our own lives (Icarus in 58.2).  We need to look beyond the struggle to see what we are struggling towards and focus on that outcome (Pallas in 58.3).  We can’t dictate how things will turn out, but neither should we shy away from knowing what we would prefer.

Adding to this is Apollo conjunct in the Sun and Moon (38.3), representing a tendency for families to keep on doing the same things generation after generation.  The solution on offer is to be aware of your vulnerability in this process, to experience how you might feel attacked, humiliated or shamed in the way things are usually done.  You need to know about this.

You need to know, because this is a moment for you to take charge of your own life if ever there was one.  The chance to blame others has evolved into a higher level of personal responsibility.  We are growing up, achieving mastery.  Nemesis in 18.1 says, turn and face your demons and name them as your own.  The I Ching speaks of facing down the angry old ghosts of the ancestors and saying ‘this is my life’.  We are making repairs and they are based on our own guidance, our own consciousness, rather than being based on long-held but mistaken bandaid measures.  This is why we have to do things so slowly and deliberately at the moment, because we are cutting new pathways of life.

Eros is conjunct the Sun and Moon, calling you out to new soul partnerships, although the reveal may feel dangerous to your newfound vulnerability.   Eros seeks to raise the masculine creative principal from one of domination to a soul partnership with the feminine.  This partnership gives rise to passion, attraction, potency and vitality.  Eros in such a crucial and significant position on this Solar Eclipse indicates a major shift in the way the masculine operates on this planet.

Up in the Throat Centre, another harbinger of the new masculine, Pan, is conjunct Sedna in Gate 23, dissolving our attachment to status and roles, to goals and outcomes, allowing us to become more gentle and accepting and open.  We may not be receiving what we expected from life just now, but it is more juicy and filled with promise than we can possibly imagine from a place where we have become drunk and lost on more superficial treasures.  Eros in Capricorn (38) and Pan in Taurus (23) indicate an earthy sensuality and  a powerful recovery of the masculine sexual and creative potency.

And the feminine?  There are two Liliths – an asteroid and the Dark Moon.  The asteroid Lilith (in 14.3) conjunct Venus, has the power to shift relationships – to self and others – to dedicate our lives to something higher than conflict, strife and struggle.   She can let go of her need to control.  We are facing in the right direction, we simply need to be receptive rather than willful.  The Dark Moon Lilith in (25.3), is a pointer to where we can let go and connect to the beloved in the form of the absolute, here we are being asked to release our attachment to anything other than our own simple and vulnerable innocence, to open to greater vistas of self.  She is paving the way for Jupiter and Uranus, who are both headed back towards the Gate of Innocence – Jupiter moves on 13th January and Uranus on 7th February.

It’s vital that the feminine energy opens up to receive the new masculine.  If it’s not received, the masculine energy remains essentially impotent and infertile, not even knowing it’s own potential for creation.

Eros’ soul mate Psyche is in Gate 35 with Chaos.  This is the Gate that brings Jupiter and Uranus to the Throat for expression.  The TNO Chaos is there as well.  While Eros is supporting us to feel physically safe, Psyche is helping us clarify our tendency to try to intuit what others are thinking or feeling about us.  She is working in the realm of our emotional sense of safety.  Our own wrong thinking and the emotional response we have to it creates an obstacle.  We believe ourselves to be attacked, isolated, unsafe.  Psyche says to take pause, to create a space where we can apprehend the true opportunity and gift in the situation.  “like a net that, without moving, catches fish while the water flows on through.”  In this pause you may feel uncertain, but Chaos promises a new form is taking shape, a new beginning is arising.

And sitting there all alone – isolated – is Mars in the Crown Chakra.  A gate of huge power to release the unseen and unknown into the consciousness of humanity.  There is nothing in Gate 24, so this activation will only affect those who have Gate 24 in their own designs.  The first stirrings of the new masculine, occuring in the old masculine arena of Capricorn.  I have seen some astrologers suggesting that this New Moon and Solar Eclipse are about strengthening the structure of the existing masculine and recommending we work hard and seek status and success.  This is a complete misreading of the deeper shift that’s going on here.

There is a spirit and connection to flow here that is our saviour within.

Inner truth is opening up a flow of change; existing frameworks and agreements of all kinds can no longer be taken for granted.  there is guidance available that can lead you towards good fortune – but it’s as well to be vigilant for other factors that may complicate matters and disturb your peace:  half hidden needs or beliefs, other people’s influence, or divergent, mutually incompatible desires.

Makemake Petroglyph ~ Wikimedia Commons

And what of the Jupiter – Uranus conjunction?  It’s in the Solar Plexus Chakra, which deals with emotions, in Gate 36.5, opposing dwarf planet MakeMake in Gate 6.6.  In the last of these conjunctions, Jupiter and Uranus, seek our mastery, our ability to operate without approval (Uranus) from our own sense of purpose and meaning (Jupiter).

The Sabian Symbol for this eclipse is “An Ancient Bas-Relief Carved in Granite Remains a Witness to a Long-Forgotten Culture.”  This is extraordinary, given the activation to Makemake and the history of ‘spoils to the victor’ that he brings to consciousness.  (more here)

Makemake, like the Easter Island statues, is a sentinel for a life lived in harmony with the abundance of nature – sensual, sexual, living each moment with each other in joyful celebration.  Makemake’s long forgotten polynesian culture on the island of Rapa Nui was destroyed by the Europeans who believed their ways were superior.   On a personal level Makemake represents an integration of that oppressor within, to see clearly how our desire for status and material goods has led us out of the garden.  It’s about integration of the superior and inferior selves at all levels – the ego who believes an Armani suit and a pair of Manolos makes us superior (and it’s hard to resist given we were raised in this culture), believing an iPhone makes us connected, and that judging others as less ‘spiritually advanced’ makes us more so.

Makemake in 6.6 tells us that we will never win.  Because the concept of winning and losing is an illusion.  So why are we competing?  Why are we struggling?  Why are we fighting?  These are ways to trap ourselves in a constant struggle for scraps, trying to protect ourselves against loss.  If we fight, we always lose.  Our culture has trained our body, mind and emotions for conflict, for pessimism, for loss.  It’s time we stop believing in it.

And last, but not least, is Saturn conjunct Haumea in the Spleen Centre.  I say not least because this New Moon is about our material wellbeing – our ability to come out of our conditioned self-isolation and create joyful abundant community.  This self-isolation may be so subtle many of us are unaware of the power it holds over our lives.  It is a watershed for the integration of the individual into the collective.  The individual may see it as a death rather than a rebirth, but the that’s how the ego rolls!

It is, in a way, a rebirth, completing our physical birth as we develop emotional stability and clarity that allows our bodies to experience life on earth as they were designed to do – in Bliss, Pleasure and Ecstacy.  Don’t take my word for it, these are the names of Psyche and Eros’ three children.  They are part of a prophecy for the full integration of duality.
