In 2015 I shifted from doing Human Design readings  to creating coaching programs. I felt dissatisfied with what I could offer my clients using the single HD chart. I wanted deeper and more transformational conversations. Coaching allowed me to dive deeper, and because I was already working with asteroids in Human Design, I could do that.

Using asteroids as an additional layer in Human Design offers coaches a powerful way to deepen client work—bringing out stories that clients are living now, but haven’t recognised.

Diving deeper into asteroids, and other chart layers, is where Human Design stops repeating itself—and begins to evolve as a living coaching practice.

Using asteroids in your Human Design Coaching practice allows you to build on the basics. Once your client understands things like Type, Strategy, Profile, you need more ways to explore who they really are.

Maybe they have Persephone in the same gate as their Sun? What does this Queen of the Underworld tell them about their purpose? About their life experiences, and the stories they tell about themselves?

Or perhaps they have one of the four great goddess asteroids – Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta – in an important position in their design? Ceres, in particular, gives definition in my experience, and should be included in EVERY Human Design reading.

Imagine if Taylor Swift came to you for Human Design Coaching (which would be so much fun!). Let’s see where that might take you both.

Taylor Swift is a great example of how asteroids can create huge shifts in how we might think about our Design.

Swift is one of our most prolific and talented musicians. She’s also been hailed as a highly skilled business woman, single-handedly transforming the streaming music business. And sure, she has that marketing channel – the 44-26 – but let’s explore the asteroids to see what else we might discover.

Swift’s Personality Earth is in Gate 45. Gate 21 is not strictly speaking a bridge gate, but it is the ‘bridge’ that connects her definition to her Throat Centre, and will always be central to her personal growth.

But what if Taylor Swift has something – lets say a very significant asteroid – in gate 21. Which she does! She has Pallas, one of the Great Goddess asteroids and VERY significant influence, in gate 21.

How does that change what we might think about her Human Design?

What quality and insight might the asteroid Pallas bring to Taylor Swift’s gate 21? How might it change the way we think about the structure of her chart and story of who she is?

When Pallas activates a gate you will always find a natural wisdom and ability to use strategy to achieve your goals. Pallas can be particularly influential in the area of business. So going back to Taylor Swift’s chart, we could say that Pallas adds her quality and insight around business strategy to gate 21, which is (at least partly) about managing a business.

Forbes magazine has described Swift as a modern day disruptive business guru, outsmarting record executives, ticket resellers and music streaming services. Forbes magazine goes so far as to say that in another life, Swift probably could have run GE or Proctor & Gamble. Perhaps the quality and insight of asteroid Pallas, the business strategist, in her one bridging gate – which deals with business management –  might explain her strategic brilliance?  It would also explain her tendency to successfully initiate (a Manifestor strategy) once she has her invitation. But if you are still working with just the one single chart (and no asteroids!) you would miss this.

Taylor Swift – The Storyteller

But wait, there’s more. What if Swift also has a significant asteroid in Gate 35. This means that not only is there an asteroid that hooks up that Ego Manifestor channel, but she also has the possibility of experiencing herself as an Emotional Manifestor. You won’t be surprised to know that she does have a significant asteroid there –  Persephone – Queen of the Underworld!

Again, How might that change how we think about her design?

This is part of the emotional, storytelling circuitry, and Swift has been described as one of the best lyrical storytellers of her generation. She writes mostly about your own emotional journeys and what she has learnt from them – a pretty good description of the 36-35 channel!

The quality and insight of Persephone activations is all about how we can emerge from a dark night of the soul with a seed of new purpose and growth. Persephone is also known as the seed maiden, the new growth that begins in the darkest places.

Let’s go back and look at that single chart again. Now you know about the Pallas and Persephone activations, how can you go back to only talking about the chart you see here? It’s too limiting!

Without the gift of the Human Design asteroids, we wouldn’t be able to share Swift’s incredible gift of strategic brilliance sitting in gate 21. Or the power of Persephone, the seed maiden, in the Gate of Progress (35), giving her a deep lyrical storytelling ability.

These are the two most significant asteroids in Swift’s Design, but they are not the only subtle influences at play. Most of the gates you consider to be empty are actually filled with archetypal energies that you are living out every day. You just don’t see them unless you explore this layer of your Human Design.

We’ve also seen how the asteroids can change the way we work with Type. This is so important. The single Type you see in that one standard HD chart may not work for everyone. And as a Human Design Coach, this is a powerful tool to support people to explore the more subtle ways their Type plays out for them.
