Human Design’s Feminine Blind Spot
Human Design can feel astonishingly accurate when you first encounter it, as though someone has finally handed you a map of yourself. But the more deeply I worked with charts, the more I began to notice something important missing. The feminine archetypes in Human Design are barely represented in the standard system, and once you see the implications of that, it changes the way you read everything.
The Moment I Realised Something Was Missing
My client was having relationship issues. I remember the moment clearly. I was looking at her Venus and Mars gates, trying to understand the deeper relationship patterns at play.
And then I realised something.
The Human Design chart – at least in the way I was looking at it – was giving me almost no insight into the feminine experience.
Human Design Has Only Two Feminine Planets
There are 13 planets in your Human Design chart. Two of them are feminine archetypes.
Only two.
In the standard Human Design chart, the Moon and Venus are asked to carry almost the entire symbolic experience of the feminine.
How could I explore that relationship dynamic without Psyche’s longing for soul connection, Juno’s instinct for partnership, or Pallas’ strategic balancing of competing loyalties?
At first it struck me as a perfect reflection of how invisible women’s lives have often been.
But over time I began to understand that bringing the asteroids into my practice changed everything I thought I knew about Human Design itself.
The Asteroids Carry the Missing Feminine Consciousness
If the planets are mostly masculine archetypes – Mercury, Mars, Saturn – where do we find the feminine archetypes?
They are in the asteroids- Psyche, Persephone, Pallas, Pandora and so many more.
You are living their archetypal stories every day.
Without these feminine archetypes in Human Design, we lose access to forms of consciousness that do not move in straight lines: intuitive glimmers, dark descents, meandering towards our dreams, and the slow accumulation of knowing that is too often forced into action before it’s true time.
This Is Not About Gender. It Is About Balance.
This is not a conversation about men versus women. It is a conversation about a reliance on one mode of consciousness at the expense of another – active over receptive, linear over cyclical, control over participation, certainty over symbolic ambiguity.
Western culture has repeatedly marginalised these feminine modes of knowing, in all areas of life.
Yes including spiritually!
Human Design inherited more of that imbalance than most of us have realised.
If We Don’t See It In The Chart, We Won’t See It In Ourselves
People seek out Human Design because it offers an entirely new way of recognising ourselves. It gives language, pattern, and permission to aspects of who we have been trying to become. It clarifies so much of what was confusing and disorienting.
But what happens when the chart is only showing part of the picture?
What happens when whole dimensions of consciousness are barely represented there?
If something is not visible in the chart itself, not expressed in the language we are using, it becomes much harder to recognise it in ourselves — let alone trust it, value it, or imagine what it might make possible.
And this, I believe, is exactly what has been happening in Human Design.
Human Design Was Never Meant To End With the Single Chart
Leaving the asteroids out of your Human Design practice doesn’t only leave you without access to the richness of feminine archetypes and their stories – Psyche, Persephone, Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta and so many more. It keeps you locked into a masculinised version of HD.
We treat it as a single chart with the impossible task of describing all of who we are. Human Design is so much more dynamic and subtle than this. It invites us to dance in a new kind of relationship, with all our layers of being.
I hear it all the time from people who come to me, knowing only their single standard HD chart.
I keep looking for permission for something I can’t find in my chart.
The descriptions landed at first, but now they feel too simple and superficial.
I feel like there’s more to Human Design, but I don’t know where to find it.
The crisis of our time can be described in many ways, but at it’s heart, it’s the result of organising life through only half of the consciousness we have access to. Human Design, when read deeply enough, already contains the conditions for restoring these neglected modes of consciousness. And that’s really exciting!
Human Design may be a transitional system whose deeper multidimensional potential has barely been explored.

The missing feminine is only one of the deeper layers that can transform how we understand Human Design and the way we work with clients.
